Meet Ellie

Born and raised in San Diego, Ellie Coburn has been photographing the world professionally since 2013. In eleven years her childhood hobby and lifetime love of photographic storytelling has transformed into a whirlwind, award winning career. “Work” has since been a grand adventure shared with thousands of humans/hundreds of families celebrating everything from birth to marriage to the beautifully mundane, intimate moments that accompany an evening at the beach. Refreshing her brand in 2022, committed to another decade of photographic storytelling, the adventure has only just begun.

Ellie is a passionate storyteller, a writer, a novice painter, and an avid book reader and collector. Fundamentally egalitarian, Ellie is an outspoken advocate for human rights, systemic reform, and community care.

Of all that she has and all that she is, being Oliver (6) and Hazel’s (5) mama is the great joy of Ellie’s life, followed closely only by the joy that it is to love and experience life alongside her incredible partner, Maddie. Motherhood and family are cornerstones of Ellie’s life and lenses through which she has built Ellie Coburn Photography.

When she’s not at work or with her family, Ellie is conducting postgraduate research on topics intersectional to her academic background in Biocultural Anthropology.

At the heart of her academic love for the intersection of biology and culture is an innate love of people, their stories, and the evolution of the fleeting now. This same deep love guides her work as a photographic storyteller and informs her deeply held values surrounding connection, community, storytelling, the preservation of childhood, and an adoration for the collective human experience.

There is truly no greater privilege than being invited to capture and memorialize the love and precious, fleeting moments among families and communities and Ellie would be elated to be given the opportunity to do exactly that for you. Be it a session on the beach amongst your family on an otherwise normal summer evening or a life changing event like the birth of a child or a celebration of marriage — it’s all magic.
